| | | The Music You Grew Up With.......... | | I was born in 1965, and had 4 older brothers. The music of 'my era' was much less an influence on me than the music my brothers grew up with. Our home was situated with a bedroom at the front of the house. This bedroom was where the oldest brother resided, at any given time. I remember the record player in that room and the music streaming out of it. My oldest brother was married and gone by the time I was 5, so the influence came from my 'hippie' brother, "C" who's desire was to be a minister. He was the next in line to reside in the 'big brother' room. Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steppenwolf, Simon & Garfunkel, The Mama's & The Papa's, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Van Morrison, etc.My 'era' as the 80's and I am still fond of some of the music from that era, but let's not talk about the 70's huh?[em]lol[/em] The music that moves my soul is that music which I remember coming from C's room. My brother DID become a minister and he has the largest record collection I have ever seen. Yes, they are the old LP's and player. He is quite convinced that nothing will ever beat the sound that eminates from them. What music moves your soul? Are you more fond of the music... | |

| | AMERICAN IDOL: What should the Idols sing for rock week? | | Perhaps it's because we've endured back-to-back-to-back doses of Latin night, country night, and inspirational ballads night, but I'm oddly excited about the prospect of guest coaches Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora bringing a harder sound back to the Idol stage this coming Tuesday. And while, at first glance, none of the six remaining contestants appear likely to follow in the footsteps of fellow Idol alum Chris Daughtry, I've got a feeling they'll all excel in the rock genre. Think about it: Melinda's got the growl, Blake's got the cool, and Jordin's already successfully covered Pat Benatar. Since Fox's press release doesn't narrow down the theme to anything more specific than "rock" -- though, seriously, a "hair metal" night (featuring a group rendition of Ratt's "Round and Round") would be one for the ages -- I was pretty broad with my request list. Ch-ch-check it out, . - LaKisha Jones, Janis Joplin's "Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)" (but only if she tears her soul out of her chest and throws it down on the stage in the spirit of the original)
- Blake Lewis, Weezer's "Beverly Hills" (because dude's reign of sensitive balladry must end!)
- Melinda Doolittle, Creedence... | |
